The Importance of STEAM-based Learning
What would a world without Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math look like? It’s almost impossible to picture because that would mean an entire upheaval of everything we know. STEAM is an acronym for the things that keep society together – things that drive innovation. Here at Futurelink, we believe these five disciplines are the most important to focus on when educating our children and we are bringing them to you in a safe online learning environment.
Why STEAM-based learning?
STEAM-based learning helps students become critical thinkers, problem solvers, and innovators. While many are more familiar with the traditional STEM-based learning method, it has recently been changed to include art as it is a critical concept for a well-rounded education.
The focus on these five disciplines is crucial to children’s education because many of the jobs that effect our everyday lives are heavily influenced by science, technology, engineering, art and math: architecture, graphic design, medical, and environmental research, and beyond!
What does STEAM-based learning look like?
At Futurelink, we offer online learning in the form of instructor-led workshops and live online courses.
We believe that the best approach to learning is one that is diverse, focused and challenging enough to grow the mind every day. Our workshops provide students with enriching experience in fields that range from traditional STEAM-based topics to health and wellness, life skills, and world languages.
Here’s a quick look at what some of our workshops have to offer:
Science – learning about human, plant and animal biology
Math – number riddles and “X”-games (multiplication)
World languages – Spanish and German
Art – drawing and digital design
For a more in-depth learning experience, Futurelink also offers full courses that are led by qualified subject experts and can be accessed from anywhere in the world! STEAM coaches meticulously plan out a course that meets in live, interactive sessions once or twice a week for a period of 1+ weeks.
E-learning courses are offered at flexible times in order to accommodate those in different times zones and give students a chance to interact with a new teaching style as well as students from all over the world.
STEM-based learning is also accessible through online book and STEAM clubs! Book club helps encourage reflection, critical thinking, debate and entertainment while STEAM club provides hands-on, engaging activities and experiments.
